The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied endorsing a social media poster claiming it reaffirmed Senator David Mark’s leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement issued on Friday, the commission described the poster and its accompanying text as fake, stressing that neither originated from INEC. “The said poster did not originate from the Commission,” the statement said.
INEC also condemned the unauthorised use of its logo and the photograph of its National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, in the publication. “For the avoidance of doubt, INEC has issued no such reaffirmation,” it stated. The commission urged the public to disregard the publication and rely on its official, verified communication channels for information about its activities and decisions.
The clarification comes amid the ADC’s leadership dispute following a Federal High Court judgment nullifying the David Mark-led leadership. The ruling has also prompted questions about the validity of decisions taken by the affected leadership, including those relating to the party’s presidential primary process.
