Singer Alanis Morissette has come out as pansexual during an appearance on the Handsome podcast.
In the November 3 episode, Morissette was asked whether being hurt by men in the past had made her want to become a lesbian. “I’m pansexual, so, yeah,” she replied.
Co-host Tig Notaro followed up, asking: “Wait, you’re not really pansexual, are you?” “I am,” Morissette said. Pansexuality describes the capacity to be attracted to people regardless of their gender.
In a separate interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast in September, Morissette spoke about experiencing postpartum depression. The singer, who has three children, told host Alex Cooper that her symptoms worsened after each pregnancy and that she experienced intrusive thoughts she described as “harrowing”.
