The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers and the demotion of 16 others following investigations into misconduct.
Commission spokesperson Torty Kalu announced the disciplinary actions in a statement, detailing that the PSC also sanctioned severe reprimands for 21 officers and ordinary reprimands for two others.
The determinations were finalized during the commission’s plenary session held on Tuesday at its headquarters in Abuja, presided over by PSC Chairman Hashimu Argungu, a retired deputy inspector-general of police.
While the commission did not release the identities of the disciplined personnel or specify the individual acts of misconduct, Argungu reiterated the agency's strict policy against official infractions.
"The PSC chairman reaffirmed the commission’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, human rights abuses, interference in land and civil matters, and other forms of misconduct within the police," Kalu stated.
Argungu assured the public that the commission remains committed to expediting disciplinary proceedings. He also commended the members of the PSC Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters for their oversight and thorough review of the disciplinary files and administrative appeals.
