A man has criticised the persistent lack of consistent electricity in Nigeria, arguing that access to reliable power supply is a basic responsibility of government and not something citizens should have to solve individually by investing in solar panels and inverters.
In a video shared online, he said Nigerians had the right to demand reliable electricity from the government they voted into power, particularly in light of campaign promises to address the country's power challenges.
He claimed Nigeria ranked among the countries with the most chronic power outages globally and questioned why citizens had become more focused on finding affordable solar systems and inverters than demanding accountability from elected officials.
According to him, wealthier Nigerians have increasingly turned to alternative power solutions, while others continue to adjust to the country's unreliable electricity supply. He described solar panels and inverters as the new version of generators, with households competing to find systems they can afford.
He also criticised Nigerians who dismiss complaints about the country's challenges by arguing that other nations have their own problems, insisting that reliable electricity and transportation are basic infrastructure needs that should not be treated as luxuries.
He further warned that future generations would question what citizens did when faced with the country's challenges, urging Nigerians to hold those in government accountable for their promises.
