Police in Malaysia have arrested a 16-year-old after reportedly injuring a teacher with an axe at a private school in Kuching, Sarawak.
According to Malaysian authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 7:50 am on Wednesday, October 21, at Tunku Putra-HELP School in Sarawak.
CCTV footage reportedly shows the teenager entering a classroom armed with an axe and striking a female teacher. He subsequently exits before returning through another entrance and swinging the weapon towards fleeing students. When the teacher attempts to intervene, the suspect allegedly tries to attack her again. However, one male student reportedly manage to overpower him and confiscate the weapon.
Sarawak acting police commissioner Saifullizan Ishak said the police received an emergency call, informing them that the student had brought firecrackers to the school and injured a teacher.
The teacher was reported to have sustained cuts on her hand.
“We are conducting detailed investigations to identify the cause of the incident and obtain evidence,” he said in a statement.
The student allegedly live-streamed the incident using a mobile phone attached to his forehead.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957.
“Police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the full cause of the incident and gather relevant evidence,” he said.
