Popular Nigerian comedian and skit maker Samuel Animashaun Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggi, has revealed he was hit by a stray bullet in an incident that forced him away from the public eye for several months.
In an emotional social media video, the entertainer broke his silence on the harrowing ordeal, explaining that the shooting occurred on March 9, 2026, while he was filming a comedy skit around the Sango-Ota Bridge area in Ogun State.
He recalled the frightening moment he touched his hip, realized he was bleeding, and was immediately rushed by his crew to a nearby medical facility.
Following the shooting, the actor received initial emergency first aid treatment at a private hospital in Alakuko, Lagos State. Due to the severity of the gunshot wound and a lack of specialized equipment at the first facility, he was quickly transferred to an emergency room at another medical facility in Ikeja. As his condition required intensive care, Broda Shaggi later traveled to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he underwent a successful surgical operation. He disclosed that his recovery progressed rapidly post-surgery; he was able to stand with support by the second day and managed to walk with the aid of crutches on the third day.
“We were done with the activation. We were already leaving. Infact, we were on the traffic but there was traffic because there was a crowd shooting. he said
Suddenly, what I heard was a loud bang and everywhere went silent. I could see people talking, but I couldn’t hear anything. It was total silence in the car. Then I touched my hip and saw blood. That was when I realised I had been hit by a stray bullet.
I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.
The comedian admitted he feared losing the use of his legs, which would have devastated his career given the physical nature of his performances.
“There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh and sometimes I would just start to cry because I wasn’t sure if I would still be able to do all these things they doing again,” he said.
Expressing gratitude that the bullet did not strike a more vital organ, he thanked fans who had spent months questioning his sudden disappearance from social media during his recovery.
