Lekki Toll Gate became a scene of tension as police deployed tear gas to disperse activists and citizens gathering to mark the sixth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests.
The memorial was organised to honour those who died during the historic demonstrations against police brutality.
Shortly after the crowd assembled, officers fired tear gas canisters into the gathering. Among the participants affected by the dispersion were Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, and Funso Doherty of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Despite the police disruption, activists maintained their resolve, vowing to sustain the fight for justice and police reform while keeping the memory of the victims alive. The tension has since cooled, and the area has been cleared.

Is there no other civil manner to address this issue than tear gassing people? To the organisers of this memorial massacre, you would have done better by getting government and police protection haven known how sensitive endsars aftermath is. Peace to my country, #Peace
The Lagos state government is so insensitive because this is clearly an order from the governor, they weren’t disrupting the state in any form or manner just a memorial to honor the dead!
I'll fire a teargas canister at Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour if I had the opportunity... he's a stupid boy
