The Borno State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the theft of a mobile phone and the unlawful withdrawal of N5.65 million from the victim’s bank account, and has recovered the stolen phone and the money.

The command's spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso disclosed this in a statement released on Wednesday, October 22.

According to the command, the incident occurred at about 9:00 am on October 13, when one Abba K. of Damboa Road, Maiduguri, boarded a commercial tricycle (Keke NAPEP) and discovered upon alighting that his Infinix Smart 8 mobile phone was missing from his pocket.

Daso said he reported the incident to the command, following which the CP directed operatives of the Command VCRU Unit (Crack) to commence investigation.

“Through diligent investigation, digital forensic analysis and intelligence gathering, the operatives successfully apprehended six suspects allegedly connected to the crime.

During the course of the investigation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the theft of the mobile phone and the subsequent unlawful withdrawal of N5,650,000.00 (Five Million, Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) from the victim’s bank account. The suspects further disclosed that the money was shared among themselves,” the statement reads in part

The command said it has recovered both the stolen phone and the sum of N5.65 million, adding that the case would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
