Social media personality Saida Boj has criticised Nigerians celebrating Halloween, questioning why they embrace a foreign festival while, in her view, paying less attention to their own cultural traditions.
In a video shared online, Saida asked Nigerians what they knew about Halloween, including its origins and why it is celebrated.
She argued that Nigerians should take greater pride in their own cultural festivals, mentioning the Egungun festival, the Eyo festival and the Calabar Carnival as examples of traditions worth celebrating.
According to her, Nigerians' enthusiasm for foreign cultures while neglecting their own contributes to the lack of respect she believes other countries show them.
She also questioned whether those celebrating Halloween understood its history and significance, insisting that Nigerians should learn more about their own traditions.
