Armenian Lawmakers Trade Blows in Parliament Over Controversial Ministry Proposal
Armenian lawmakers exchanged blows in parliament following a heated dispute over a controversial proposal to establish a "Ministry of Marital Relations" aimed at addressing declining birth rates and domestic satisfaction.

The confrontation broke out in the National Assembly during a debate involving members of the ruling Civil Contract party and the opposition Strong Armenia party. The row escalated rapidly after a ruling party lawmaker sharply criticized the opposition's unconventional policy platform, demanding an apology for how the proposed ministry characterized citizens.
According to legislative reports, the verbal disagreement quickly deteriorated into physical altercations, with members trading punches and throwing objects across the chamber floor.

The chaotic session had to be temporarily suspended as security officials moved in to restore order among the feuding politicians.
“Can we now actually say that in a strong Armenia there will be no unsatisfied women?” said an opposition figure previously, defending the unusual administrative concept as a serious solution to demographic challenges.
The opposition party had earlier defended the creation of the specific government department, arguing that strengthening domestic relationships and addressing personal fulfillment would directly boost the country's population growth.
“People who had been getting on our nerves for months got it right in the mouth – and got it good,” said the opposition leader following the altercation, describing the physical clash as a direct response to ongoing political friction.

Meanwhile, representatives from the ruling coalition heavily condemned the disruption, stating that the proposal was highly inappropriate and that the legislative floor should maintain standard decorum.
“It won't work to provoke a fight and escape from the National Assembly session hall without getting beaten,” said a ruling party lawmaker, criticizing the opposition's conduct during the proceedings.
The incident marks a series of tense legislative standoffs in the country as political factions continue to clash over both domestic policy frameworks and governance standards.
