A Muslim lady from Kaduna State, Nafisat Muhammad Nasir, has reacted to the online backlash she received after admitting she is materialistic and won't marry a poor man.
"I’m unapologetically materialistic, and I’m not even going to pretend otherwise. Ban ga dalilin da zai sa in auri talaka ba. To a kan me? Sai in chi me? In saka me? Lallai ma! I know what I want, I know the kind of life I desire, and I refuse to apologise for having standards. I said what I said!,” she wrote.
Defending her stance, she fired back at critics, saying that after educating their daughters, they should give them out to poor men.
Her posts ignited a whirlwind of mixed reactions, ranging from mockery, cyber-bullying, and name-calling to commendation.
While many critics labeled her a gold digger, others praised her honesty.
Defending her, a Facebook user Idris Hamza Yana, argued that women should not be mocked for setting high standards for themselves.
“So where did we get this idea of mocking ladies who set standards for themselves? A woman says she wants to marry a man who has certain qualities and values and you feel offended? You expect a woman to marry any jagunana just because he is a man? How man enough are you?,” he wrote."If a woman doesn’t know the type of man she wants to live with then something is wrong with her. Especially in this age when some young men are afraid of shouldering matrimonial responsibilities or even running away from them.“She needs to be sure that she is marrying a MAN, in every sense of the word, not some scared spoilt brat who will start whimpering at the mention of diapers or school fees. Man up, guys! To be a man is not a day’s job!”
