Kano lawmaker suspended for allegedly insulting Governor Yusuf

The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended Yusuf Bello Aliyu, member representing Nasarawa Local Government Area, for three months over alleged insulting remarks against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

At its plenary on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the assembly directed the lawmaker to stay away from all legislative activities throughout the suspension period.

The suspension followed a video in which the lawmaker was seen holding a rabbit by its ears while making remarks allegedly considered insulting to the governor.

The assembly had earlier announced that it would invite the lawmaker over the video.

Speaking after Wednesday’s plenary, Lawan Hussaini Dala said Aliyu was required to appear before the assembly and apologise publicly to the governor.
