"Is marriage the place where women's dreams go to die?" — Kiki Osinbajo reacts to content telling women how to behave in marriage

Kiki Osinbajo has expressed frustration over the constant advice directed at women about how they should behave in marriage and treat their husbands.

In a video shared online, she reacted to a man who reportedly said he would not want his wife travelling for three years when he is in his 80s because she would be expected to serve as his nurse and mother.

Questioning the statement, Kiki asked whether the wife would not also need someone to care for her at that age.

She criticised the growing number of podcasts and social media discussions focused on what wives should do, saying she rarely sees the same expectations placed on husbands.

“Is marriage the place where women's dreams go to die or they become slaves just because they're married?” she asked.

Kiki also addressed men who expect automatic respect and submission from women simply because they are men.

She argued that biblical teachings about submission in marriage should not be used to demand submission from women who are not their wives.

“God never said we should submit to everybody else's husband. He says submit to your own husband,” she said.

She urged men who demand such treatment from women outside their marriages to stop imposing those expectations on others.
