Stop sending money home when they beg you – Peter Obi tells Nigerians in UK

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians residing in the United Kingdom to stop giving financial handouts to relatives seeking money at home, advising them instead to push their families to vote for productive leaders.

Speaking during a town hall meeting with diaspora supporters in the UK on Sunday, October 18, Obi lamented the prevailing economic hardship in Nigeria and argued that continuous financial assistance only cushions the effects of poor governance without addressing the root causes.

"You have people at home in Nigeria today who are begging you for money. Tell them no! Obi stated.

The former Anambra State governor insisted that his record in public office distinguished him from other governors, claiming that none had matched his achievements in saving public funds.

“I’m not saying I’m a saint, but I saved money. I’ve not seen one governor who has saved 10 per cent of what I saved. No governor has done it.

Let's start with this one that is less corrupt. That's how other countries change." he said

The former Anambra State governor emphasized that diaspora remittances cannot substitute for bad leadership and systemic corruption.

He urged citizens abroad to use their influence to sway voters back home toward candidates with proven capacity, character, and fiscal discipline to transition the country's economy from consumption to production.

If my family needs urgent help, I will wait to vote first before sending them money? I don't have any faith in any Nigerian politician.

What a stupid thing to say !!!!! So one should expect money from leaders ??? Leaders that are meant to use government money on infrastructure and governance.

Rubbish advise. So people should neglect their people because you want to be President of Nigeria. Always out of line… it will do you more good to not talk rather than open your gutter to spew nonsense always.

What is the meaning of this, which country politicians talk like this? You have never told the people that are disgracing Nigerians abroad in the way of drug trafficking, wire fraud etc to stop the bad acts but instead telling those that are helping their people at home to stop helping them; things people have been doing when you were probably in primary school. Just because one selfish and desperate man want to become president by force by scam. Is he really a Christian?? because there is no Christian value in that statement.

Peter God will punish you. You have all you have today from public service whether directly or indirectly, you see why Yoruba,s and Hausa,s will always be better than Igbo,s. The whole south east from information survives on diaspora assistance, yet for your own personal useless ambition you an Igbo man is ready to sell out your people for useless talk. Guy you would never win election in Nigeria. The UK gives welfare assistance to their people, now I know you are a chinch.
