Nicole Brown Simpson’s sister, Tanya Brown, says she is reconsidering whether O.J. Simpson may have received help disposing of evidence following the 1994 deaths of Nicole and Ron Goldman.
Speaking to TMZ, Tanya said she had long believed Simpson acted alone but that a recent New York Times investigation had prompted her to consider whether another person helped conceal evidence afterwards. “Someone had to have discarded that bag ... and I don’t think it was O.J.,” she said.
According to TMZ’s account of the investigation, Sam Ippolito alleged that his brother, Joseph “Joey” Ippolito, an associate of Simpson, returned home that night with blood on his hands and carrying a heavy bag. Sam claimed he later disposed of the bag in a dumpster. The allegations have not been proven, and the report does not establish the bag contained.
Tanya suggested that attorneys involved in the original case may have dismissed information because they were overly confident about securing a conviction. However, she also questioned why Sam was speaking publicly now, particularly as Joey is no longer alive to respond. “Everyone their 15 min of fame,” she told TMZ, adding that she had no interest in speaking with him.
Tanya said she had finally found time to grieve her sister this year and was now sober. She credited those changes with helping her become more open to the possibility that someone else disposed of evidence. Simpson’s former attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, has urged an end to speculation, arguing that continuing theories offer little closure to the families.
TMZ’s Harvey Levin also discussed the allegations, suggesting that any possible involvement by Joey would have concerned disposing of evidence after the deaths, rather than participating in the fatal attacks. Simpson was acquitted in the 1995 criminal trial but was subsequently found liable for Nicole and Goldman’s deaths in civil court. He died in 2024.
