Police rescue two abducted children on Abuja-Kaduna highway
Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have rescued two abducted children along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, October 23, 2026.

According to the PPRO, the children, aged eight and 12, were found stranded in their father's abandoned Toyota Highlander along the Abuja-Kaduna highway after the vehicle went missing in Suleja.

The incident occurred on October 19 when the father took the children to a government school in Suleja to seek admission but was denied entry because they had incomplete documents.

Abiodun said the father parked by the roadside after leaving the school gate and handed the vehicle key to the children before going to a nearby computer centre to photocopy some documents.

The father reportedly returned to discover that the children and the vehicle were missing.

“On 19/10/2026 at about 10:32a.m, a report was received at Maje Div that on the same date at about 8:40a.m, the complainant drove his Toyota Highlander vehicle bearing Reg. No. ABJ 810 GZ with his two children aged 8yrs and 12yrs respectively as the occupants,” the statement read.

"He stated that they were headed to a Government School, Suleja to seek admission for the children but was denied entry into the school for having incomplete documents.

"As a result, he drove the vehicle away from the gate, parked by the road side and gave the key to the children, leaving to make photocopies of some documents at a nearby computer centre.

"On returning to the spot where he parked, he discovered that the vehicle and the children were nowhere to be found.

"On receipt of the complaint, the DPO immediately mobilized to the scene and he interviewed the School's security after which he embarked on intensive search patrol along Abuja-Kaduna highway and in the process, the said vehicle was found abandoned along the highway with the two children left stranded.

“The vehicle was recovered and properly searched while the children were rescued unhurt and when questioned, they revealed that they slept off while waiting for their father to return. Further investigation is ongoing.”
