The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of 61-year-old retired teacher, Mrs Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun, who was fatally injured at her residence in Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta, on February 27.
Following sustained investigative efforts, the principal suspect, Alhaji Saburi Lateef Ayinde, popularly known as “OKI-OCEAN”, was arrested on October 19.
The deceased’s lifeless body was discovered in the toilet of her residence on February 28, a day after she reportedly returned from a retirement celebration organised by her colleagues.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that she was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.
Speaking on the investigation breakthrough, the command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, says the suspect reportedly confessed to the fatal injury and linked the incident to financial dealings with the deceased, claiming that he had entrusted N3,450,000 to her for safekeeping, with an understanding that she would lend him N1,500,000 towards purchasing another vehicle.
Babaseyi said detectives are working to corroborate his account and establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder.
