A former Nigerian caregiver convicted of assault and adult abuse, Obiageriaku Jane Iheanacho, has been arrested by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency in Baltimore, Maryland and now faces deportation.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the arrest of Ms Iheanacho in a statement on Friday, September 25, 2026.
“Obiageriaku Jane Iheanacho, a criminal illegal alien from Nigeria, convicted for first-degree assault and vulnerable adult abuse in Baltimore, Maryland, was arrested among worst illegal aliens,” the statement read.
Iheanacho was arrested alongside others categorised among America’s “Worst of the worst” criminals to be deported to their respective countries.
The Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin said, “Yesterday, the brave men and women of ICE arrested murderers, s3xual predators, robbers, and other dangerous illegal aliens.
"Despite the dangerous and ugly rhetoric from sanctuary politicians that have resulted in a 1,600% increase in assaults against them, ICE will never stop enforcing the law, deporting illegal aliens, and protecting the American people."
In 2023, Ms Iheanacho, a geriatric nursing assistant at Autumn Lake Health Care Post Acute Care Center in Baltimore City, was convicted of first-degree assault and abuse of a vulnerable adult and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
During police investigation, she claimed a patient, 74-year-old Ellsworth Johnson-Bey was holding something in his hand that she tried to take.
She said he started hitting her and lost his balance.
According to prosecutors, surveillance video at the facility shows Johnson-Bey stepping back, Iheanacho walking up to and hitting him, forcing him against a wall and pushing him.
Johnson-Bey fell and broke his left hip. The judge was clearly concerned to hear no one helped him for more than a minute. Iheanacho didn't render aid. Instead, she was down the hall fixing her hair.
"He was hurt in an engagement with our client over a silly box of gloves, got into a tussle and fell and broke his hip. My client is absolutely sorry that happened," said Iheanacho's attorney, Garbiel Christian.
Johnson-Bey d!ed in September 2022, and the medical examiner ruled his d3ath a homicide.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Schiffee said she was very concerned about Iheanacho's actions and inaction.
The judge sentenced Iheanacho to 25 years in prison, suspended all but seven years Christian said Iheanacho turned in her nursing license.
Always assume you're under surveillance whenever you work as a caregiver. There are hidden cameras in those homes and spaces. However, walk away from troublesome clients. They'll ruin your life.

What a shame. You went to America for the much touted greener pastures, but end up being classified as one of the " Worst of the Worst criminal elements". The authorities said, "Obiageriaku Jane Iheanacho, a criminal illegal alien from Nigeria, convicted for first-degree assault and vulnerable adult abuse in Baltimore, Maryland, was arrested among worst illegal aliens,” You've not only damaged your reputation, but caused disgrace for your family and country. Why did you take a job that you know that you don't have accommodation for all the discomforts and hazards that comes with it?. Such geriatric institutions are closely monitored for the kind of abuse that you inflicted on your patient, and they've iron-clad evidence and proof against your defense, and there's no pathway for you to escape sanctions. I feel sorry for you, your children and family, but unfortunately, the Law has to take its course.
I really don't believe this lady committed this crime,I feel the justice system was biased to her,there was clearly no intent other than a misunderstanding to warrant a prison sentence as if she was some murderer
Look at the Iheanacho's face closely. Even without her lifting a paw, even you will plead for mercy if she merely bears down on you.
