Gunmen k!ll three women at Plateau mining site

At least three women have been k!lled, with another person injured, when gunmen opened fire at a mining site located in the Rakum community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. 

The attackers reportedly stormed the mining site at about 4:30pm on Monday, September 28, 2026 and shot sporadically at workers before fleeing the area.

The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, BYM, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident. 

“The incident happened at Rakum. Three women were k!lled while another person was injured when the attackers stormed the mining site and opened fire,” he said.

He expressed concern over the safety of residents and workers in the area, urging security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible.

"Another sad development that has further heightened concerns over the safety of people working and living in the area,” he said.

"We are calling on the security operatives to immediately go after the perpetrators and ensure that those responsible are arrested and brought to justice.”

John Silas, a member of the community who also confirmed the incident, said the attack occurred at about 4pm.

According to Silas, the attackers opened fire on people at the mining site, k!lling three women and injuring another person.

He expressed concern over the safety of residents, saying they should be able to carry out their legitimate activities without fear of attacks.

He also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the attackers and prevent further incidents in the community.
