There is hunger but people are building houses -Wike’s aide tells Gen Z’s complaining about poverty (video)

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, has pushed back against the narrative of widespread poverty and hunger championed by Generation Z Nigerians, arguing that economic activities and construction remain robust.

Appearing on Africa Independent Television’s (AIT) Democracy Today programme, Olayinka addressed ongoing public discussions concerning the severe cost of living crisis, inflation, and economic reforms under the current administration.

While acknowledging public concerns regarding economic pressures, Olayinka questioned the absolute framing of the hardship narrative by younger demographics, pointing out visible indices of private development and ongoing construction across communities.

The remarks come amid an intensifying national conversation over the impact of federal economic policies, rising food prices, and shifting living standards for young Nigerians, as political stakeholders align positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Unfortunately this is the kind of people we find in the corridors of power in Nigeria, no empathy no sympathy no sensitive no consideration for others as long as they can "eat" see he's all swollen up to the lips. That's how they bring curses on themselves and loved ones after leaving offices they look dejected. Let him say it out loud that the millions of people hungry should go rob the few building houses and buying cars instead of complaining

I have always said it that to defend Tinubus administration you just have to be stupid, is there any regime that people won't build houses? Will more people not build in a thriving economy? Nigeria is a very rich country with high number of billionaires and even people benefitting from the corrupt system so why won't people build houses, very senseless talk
