Lagos man takes own life after his lover called off their relationship

A man identified simply as Abiodun has died by suicide in the Idimu area of Lagos State, following an alleged disagreement with his lover over their relationship.

Punch reports that the incident occurred in the Ire Akari area of the community on Saturday, October 31, after his longtime girlfriend reportedly told him she was no longer interested in continuing their relationship.

It was gathered that Abiodun, said to be in his early 30s, was arguing with the yet-to-be-identified woman when she announced her decision to end the relationship.

Disturbed by the development, he reportedly drank the contents of an insecticide he was holding in his hand.

A resident of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Abiodun was rushed to a hospital on Powerline Road, where he later died.

“He was having issues with his girlfriend, and it later resulted in an argument on Saturday evening. She eventually told him that she was no longer interested in the relationship and stepped out of the house. By the time she returned, Abiodun had already consumed insecticide. He was rushed to a hospital on Powerline Road, where he later died,” the resident said

The source added that Abiodun’s mother was immediately alerted and made efforts to secure medical attention for him.

“His mother works at a supermarket in the area and tried all she could to ensure that he was revived. She was alerted by neighbours who had already rushed him to the hospital. She thereafter tried to raise money to pay for the required medical expenses.

It was when she returned to the hospital with the recommended drugs on Sunday morning that she was informed of his death,” the source disclosed.

The state police command is yet to comment on this development.
