Nigeria’s Flamingos beat Brazil to reach first U17 Women World Cup final

Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have advanced to the final of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup for the first time in history after securing a 3-1 victory over Brazil in the semi-finals on Wednesday night, November 4.

The historic win was driven by goals from Queen Joseph and Awawu Bashiru, with Bashiru netting twice to seal the triumph.

Joseph opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 56th minute, before Bashiru doubled the lead in the 71st minute. Bashiru then completed her brace in the 80th minute to put the game out of reach for Brazil.
This milestone achievement surpasses the team's previous best finish of winning the bronze medal at the 2022 edition of the tournament.

With the semi-final victory, the Flamingos will now face Japan in the final matchup as they compete to capture their first-ever FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup title.
