A pastor has sparked outrage after describing women who call the police when physically assaulted by their husbands as “evil” and accusing them of harming their spouses.
In a sermon, the pastor said a woman who reports her husband to the police after he slaps her is doing something wicked.
He criticised Cassandra McMurtry, a pastor’s wife, for advising women experiencing physical abuse to seek help and report it to the authorities.
The pastor described the advice as “unbiblical trash” and argued that women should remain with their husbands even when they are bad spouses, citing biblical teachings on submission and marriage.
He also warned women against recording their husbands during disputes or reporting them to the police, claiming such actions could damage their reputations, cost them their jobs and expose them to the risk of being harmed by responding officers.
He said the only exception he would make was in cases where a woman was certain her husband was a “reprobate”, using examples such as a paedophile or someone involved in homosexuality.
The pastor further invoked Matthew 5:39, which teaches turning the other cheek when struck, and questioned why women should call the police after being assaulted by their husbands.
He ended the sermon by telling members who disagreed with his position to leave the church, describing women who report their husbands to the police as “evil feminist broads”.
