14-year-old girl shot as suspected armed herders attack farmers in Plateau-Nasarawa border community

A 14-year-old girl, identified as Amina Ya'u, has sustained gunshot injuries after suspected armed herders allegedly opened fire on farmers in Majelisa village, a community bordering Nasarawa and Plateau states.

The incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on November 5, 2026, following a report of sporadic gunshots in the community.

Troops of Sector 9, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), deployed at Jenta, immediately responded to the distress report and moved to the location.

On arrival, the troops discovered the teenage victim with gunshot wounds, while the suspected attackers had fled before their arrival.

Preliminary investigations indicated that a group of armed herders allegedly opened fire on farmers following a disagreement over grazing activities.

The troops evacuated the injured girl to the General Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa State, for medical attention.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, engagements with Fulani leaders are ongoing to assist in identifying and locating the fleeing suspects.

Troops have also intensified patrols and security presence in the general area to prevent further violence and possible escalation of the dispute.
