A group of Nigerian law students has publicly apologised following backlash over their viral TikTok video, confirming that they have taken it down and accepted responsibility for the controversy.
In an apology video, the students said they did not intend to ridicule the legal profession or portray young lawyers as incapable of representing clients in court.
They apologised to the public, the Council of Legal Education, the disciplinary body of their faculty and other relevant authorities over the video and its impact on the perception of the legal profession.
The students also stressed that they held the profession in high regard, adding that many of them had always aspired to become lawyers and had worked hard to achieve that goal.
They further commended their lecturers for their efforts to instil strong moral values in them, insisting that their video was not intended to undermine the profession or the training they had received.
"We have taken down the video and we have taken full responsibility," they said as they appealed for forgiveness.
