Katie Zacharia’s tenure as White House press secretary ended after five days while she was being interviewed about the role, according to The Wall Street Journal.
In an account published on Friday, October 16, the newspaper said Zacharia was speaking to a reporter in her office when senior Trump adviser Jason Miller knocked on the door.
Miller reportedly told her that Vice President JD Vance wanted to speak with them both. Zacharia left the room and did not return to the interview or resume her duties, the publication reported. President Donald Trump later told journalists that he had discussed the position with Zacharia earlier that day and encouraged her to reconsider.
“I said, ‘Is this for you Katie? Because honestly, you don’t need this,’” Trump said. “Honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider,” he added. The account did not establish whether Zacharia formally resigned or was dismissed.
I said, Is this for you Katie Because honestly, you don’t need this, Trump said. Honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider. Yea that’s how white people pass you the message without passing you the message directly, they’re never direct, you have to read between the lines, you’re fine doesn’t mean you’re fine lol.
