Gloria Ugolee, the lady who initially claimed that the pilot in the ill-fated helicopter crash that occurred in Lagos on Friday, August 28 died while the hospital waited for a police report, has recanted her statement.
Gloria who is friends with the deceased pilot wrote
''Captain Chika Ernest,pilot of the plane crash in opebi Lagos this afternoon. He emptied the fuel tank to avoid explosion on impact,he crashed on a fence avoiding the roofs and house. Always looking out for others. My brother and friend since primary school, said he was in pH just this week, and now he is gone. Taken to the hospital but after taking all the videos for social media, they waited for police report untill he died. I miss you is an understatement. John11:23-25 my only consolation.''
Well, she has recanted her statement and has even deleted her previous post.
In a new post on her IG page, Gloria said she cannot confirm if the pilot really died while the hospital was waiting for a police report. Her post reads
''Chika is gone! No I can Not confirm if it was the police report or something else, I wasn't there, when I asked last night about his condition, that is what I was told. He is gone. We are all sad that he survived the crash but didn't make it through, it truly would be unfair to blame anyone out of grief. Please lets allow the family to grieve.''

Almost every time I hear this nonsense about a hospital waiting for police report before they treat a patient, it almost always turns out to be untrue. Who waits around waiting for a report when the casualty of a crash is on their hands? With all the attention the crash garnered? Only you gave all these information without waiting for a formal investigation: "he positioned an out of control helicopter to avoid roofs"! "He dumped the fuel"! Haba. If the fuel was not discharged before impact, everything around there would have been in flames. This is a standard protocol for crafts ..... when there is time to do so.
My own candid advice is that police report should stopped, peoples lives are important.

I knew she was just speaking nonsense as only the black box and the necessary aviation team would have known if he emptied the fuel tank and avoided rooftops. A plane meant to crash is definitely out of control. People should be mindful what they post on social media. She would have deleted the post because the police and the hospital would have called her to provide proof of her statement. And mind you. The police, and Lagos State Emergency Team were on ground and first responders to the scene and they would have escorted such survivor to the hospital .

One of the reasons why people should have verifiable facts before posting things. And as a health worker it is so painful and damaging that I know that people who persist in this damaging and disparaging attacks based on falsehood will not go unpunished. The Bible tells us not to be false witnesses. It comes with retribution.

If I was in the hospital and witness everything till he died, I will stand on my ground! No threat would moved me not saying what happened. Nigeria hospitals are known for neglecting people to die all for police report or payment before service

Young lady, I feel for you because you put yourself on the spot for reasons known to you. Do you love the deceased more than the family he left behind? His family feel more pain and grievances than any of you. Trust me we've lost loved ones at some point in our lives, we cry in the silence of our hearts. Genuine tears, sometimes we get so broken and bottle it inside, we dont do this public show you put up. I'd allow investigations and if you were so close to the deceased, doubt you'll have the energy to type one word. You'd be broken you wouldn't remember where an internet device is. I will refuse to judge you, but learn not to have spontaneous reactions. Again you dont love him more than his family. Allow them to mourn in peace.

Aviation fuel dumping is one the most basic components of a Pilot's training. It is a protocol Pilots use in emergency situations. It's meant to minimize the likelihood of a fire by minimizing the quantity of fuel available to burn in the event of a crash (less fuel, less fire...). The protocol is also used to reduce the weight of the aircraft to the right maximum Landing weight (used to ensure the aircraft doesn't land too heavy and damage the undercarriage). If this Pilot had landed with his full tank, that whole neighbourhood would have been on fire, and many more lives and assets would have been lost. He saved a lot of lives by dumping fuel.
