“When did social media become the family court?” — BBNaija’s Uriel Oputa questions couples who air relationship fights online

BBNaija star Uriel Oputa has questioned couples who bring their relationship disagreements to social media, saying some issues should be handled privately.

In a post on Instagram, Uriel said she wondered why people choose to make their personal relationship fights public and allow strangers to weigh in.

“This is probably an unpopular opinion, but why do people bring their personal relationship fights to social media? Like... when did social media become the family court?” she wrote.

She said she hopes to end up with a partner who has the wisdom and emotional maturity to understand that not every disagreement needs an audience.

According to Uriel, couples should handle some disagreements privately through honest communication, counselling or with the help of a trusted professional when necessary.

She also warned that social media users may not genuinely care about the outcome of a couple’s problems, despite their reactions online.

“People will watch, pick sides, screenshot, make memes, laugh, argue in the comments... and then scroll to the next thing,” she added.
