At least 21 people have di£d, five are missing and five others have been injured across Nepal after four days of torrential rain triggered floods and landslides in several parts of the country, authorities said on Sunday, Sept. 27.
The latest warning came after the Narayani River in central Nepal crossed the danger level of nine metres on Sunday morning, Sept
27, and entered settlements.
Several highways leading to Chitwan, a key road junction connecting different parts of the country, also remained blocked by landslides.
According to an update from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), landslides accounted for 14 of the d£aths. Five people remain missing in landslide-related incidents.
A separate landslide in Nishikhola Village Council of Baglung district k!lled four people on Sunday morning, local authorities said.
“In Nishikhola Village Council of Baglung District, four people have di£d after being buried in a landslide. The incident occurred this morning in Ward Number 3, Hardra,” Prem Bahadur Gharti Magar, the deputy chairperson of the village council, told ANI over the phone.
The Kaligandaki River in Baglung has also swept away houses and bridges, cutting off road connectivity in parts of the district.
Videos shared online show houses collapsing into holes created by the landslide.
In one video, a mountainside is seen giving way, and the people watching can be heard crying out as it happens.
The video was shot near Lete in Mustang District. It shows a large section of a mountain sliding into the Kali Gandaki River in the valley below within about six seconds. Residents can be heard screaming as the debris rushes downhill.
Another video, shot from a hillside, shows the ground giving way and sinking into the valley. Part of a shelter and several trees are carried down with it.
Villagers can be heard screaming as the camera pans, and voices shout "Ghar gai sakyo", which means "the home is already gone".
