Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has reacted to a viral video showing former Nigerian Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, being used in an advertisement for an Indian hospital.
The clip shows the former Nigerian leader during a visit to the foreign facility for knee surgery, which the hospital recently used for its promotional campaigns.
Sharing the advertisement on his social media platforms, Sowore described the video as a "tragic indictment of failed leadership." He criticized Abdulsalami for ‘failing to build a world-class healthcare system in Nigeria while in office, only to travel abroad for medical care in his old age.’

These so-called “experienced leaders” had every opportunity while in power to build first-class healthcare facilities in Nigeria. Yet, in old age, they travel abroad for the very medical care they failed to make adequately available at home and can even end up as advertisements for foreign hospitals.
At this rate, perhaps one day a hospital in France will be using a Nigerian president, Tinubu for its adverts.
What a tragic indictment of decades of failed leadership and neglect of Nigeria’s healthcare system.''
