“Signs Afrobeats is falling off” – Nigerian rapper Slimcase says star power among Nigerian artistes is weakening

Nigerian rapper Slimcase has suggested that Afrobeats is losing its appeal, claiming that the influence and star power of some of its biggest names are gradually declining.

In a post shared on social media, the singer listed what he considered signs of the genre's decline, including fans losing interest in their favourite artistes and the growing perception that everyone is now a star.

He also blamed what he described as the “see finish” attitude among fans, suggesting that constant exposure to celebrities has made people less excited about them.

According to Slimcase, social media algorithms have also contributed to the situation, while the growing visibility of artistes may have reduced the sense of exclusivity that once surrounded fame.

He ended his post with a warning that the situation could get worse, writing, “Doom is around the corner. Doom is coming for us all.”
