A 30-year old shoemaker, Olalekan Osuntuyi, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly filming his female co-tenant while she was bathing and later demanding a ransom from her.
The defendant was arraigned on a charge of conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
According to the charge, Osuntuyi allegedly committed the offence in February 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., at No. 1, Okoro Tinubu Street, Isolo, Akure, within the Akure Magisterial District.
The police prosecutor, D.O Ifidon alleged that the defendant used his iPhone XR to record Blessing Salami while she was bathing and later sent the video to her to demand a ransom.
The alleged offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The police prosecutor, D.O. Ifidon, told the court that the prosecution had three witnesses and requested an adjournment to prepare for trial.
He also urged the court to deny the defendant bail, arguing that he might interfere with the trial because he and the nominal complainant live in the same house.
In his ruling, Magistrate O. Omotosho ordered that the defendant be remanded at the correctional centre and adjourned the case to November 6, 2026, for consideration of the bail application.
