A ride-hailing driver in Nigeria has raised concerns over the rising cost of operating expenses and what he described as low fares on ride-hailing platforms Bolt and inDrive.
The driver, reportedly said he spent ₦80,000 on fuel and worked throughout the night, driving for both platforms, but earned only ₦60,000. According to his account, his earnings failed to cover his fuel expenses, leaving him with nothing to take home to support his family.
“I bought fuel worth ₦80,000 and worked all night yesterday as a Bolt and inDrive driver. All I made was ₦60,000, leaving me with nothing to take home to feed my family,” he said. The driver added that he has a wife and four children to provide for, including paying school fees, buying food and maintaining his vehicle.
“I have four children and a wife to take care of. I pay their school fees, provide food for them, and still have to service my car,” he stated. His complaint has drawn attention to the financial pressures facing ride-hailing drivers, who must contend with fuel costs, vehicle maintenance and other operating expenses while earning through app-based services.
