Men of the Edo state police command have arrested and paraded six suspects in connection with the rape and murder of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), inside a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
22-year-old Vera who goes to read every day at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill, Benin, was attacked with a fire extinguisher, raped and then killed on Wednesday, May 27. Read here.
After months of investigation, the state police command has arrested and paraded the suspects identified as Nelson Ogbebor, Akato Valentine, Mrs Tina Samuel, Mrs Mary Ade, Nosa Osabohien and Collins Ulegbe.
A breakthrough in the investigation came after the police traced the phone of the deceased to one of the suspects, Nosa Osabohien.
Nosa who claims to be a phone repairer said he bought late Vera's phone from the prime suspect, Collins Uyegbulen. He led the police to arrest Collins who confessed to have directly participated in the murder.
Collins told the police that he used the fire extinguisher in the church to hit late Vera after the other suspects took turns to rape her. He gave the names of other members of his gang as Akato Valentine and Collins Ogbebor.
He told the police that one Mary Ade gave them N1m to kill the suspect and then use a handkerchief she gave them to clean the blood from the private part of the deceased.

Another suspect, Tina Samuel, was arrested for allegedly obstructing the police from arresting her son, Lucky, who is one of the suspects.
The state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, who paraded the suspects, said a post-mortem conducted on late Uwaila, confirmed she was raped.
“The matter was a great concern to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Muhammed Adamu who sent to us here in Benin, Homicide experts to work with our policemen at the state criminal investigation department.
What we are seeing today, is a result of the uniting efforts of the police to get at the root of the crime and today, I announce to you and making public through this medium that the perpetrators have been arrested.
The postmortem results had actually confirmed that she was raped”, he said.

The Nigerian state continued without an appease or appeal to the Igbo People, there was no appology although it will matter nothing, there was no correcting of the injustice done to the Ibo People by the Nigerian government, and yet they continue to form a country called Nigeria despite the pains of the wounded murdered souls. How in the world can this be Just? The Yoruba (apologies to your derisive name) who had all the resources within the Nigerian society are so inured and lulled to sleep by internal bigotry and fratricidal warfare, they are not as united as other tribes, they fight and banter among themselves, the Hausa have used these division among the the Yoruba people to indirectly steal all the resources in their region when we were Young, we often are aware and this still hold true, that Hausa have no tangible natural resources in their region, except that they are mostly Farmers, who deal in cattle and tomatoes. The natural resources of Nigeria is mostly in the South, the oil is in Niger delta and Ondo, the Ocean through which things are imported into the country is in the the South, the mostly travelled people in the country are from the south, the well educated People are from the the South, most of the Doctors, Lawyers, engineers and the enlightened Nigerians are southerners, The Capital of Nigeria was strategically located in the South. The British came into Nigeria from the Southern Part of Nigeria, although the Yoruba People are to be blamed mostly the Obas in Yoruba Land for trading in slavery. The Hausa who are very subtle and clandestine in their style of governance, played a secret Politics against the southerner, I have seen them in their clandestine meetings in Abuja where all the Hausa are invited and they hold meeting planning to prevent all other regions from having a hold to Power, after several planned rotation of government, the Hausa always present themselves as they are mostly all about the fanatical religion and its spread. While the southerner were lulled to sleep by greed and deceitful politics , the Hausa held on to Power using the Nigerian Army as their major tool of subjugation, there has been no fair recruitment into the Nigerian Army or Navy or Airforce, they kept the power of the country consistently among themselves and used it as a tool of subjugation. So if a southerner complains about the crude handling of governance, they send the oppressive force , either the Police who are mainly northerner, the Army who are core illiterates from the North or DSS manned by one of them, where they only used a Southerner as spokesperson. These has been the manner with which Hausa have subjugated the country. Many have been killed, jailed and criminalized for standing up against the wrong doing in government. Gani Fawehimi was vehemently persecuted by Babangida until they Jailed him and destroyed his eyes in one of the solitary confinement before he died, Beko Ransom Kuti was also killed by the Hausa government, Afred Rewane, was murdered, Ojukwu was killed after he groaned in Pain that we were still being oppressed despite being free from Slavery, Fela Anikulapo Kuti was Murdered by the Nigerian government and right now Omoyele Sowore is in their raider. They hoped to kill him for asking for a better Nigeria. The North who had no resources have since taken over all the resources in the south, They have iether sacked your Igbo or Yoruba from all the resources of Nigeria in the south and are carting away huge fund to feed their Lust in the North, I drove through a road in the North in recent time and i saw how they have developed their region with all the money being stolen from the south, the road was well ordered and i wonderd if i was in Nigeria, I have seen how bad Lagos is abandoned and how bad Benin Ore road is abandoned and I saw how these Hausa are using all the proceed of the country;s resources to better the lives of their own children and how they have suddenly become the Boss at the Apapa Port collecting huge tax from even the Yoruba and Igbos who are mainly traders and you will never find the money or its use in the development of Nigeria, The Hausa are in Charge of all the wealth belonging to the other regions and are using the Police who they appoint to prevent you from resisting their forceful subjugation. Young People who attended college and university have no Jobs and are roaming the streets, they have radicalized the southerner as there are more street urchins who are unaware of a better future, they never created Jobs, they killed all the industries by massive corruption, we still cannot complete Ajakuta steel despite the fact that Russinas used it to help Nigeria to victory against the Igbo People , The Nigerian National Anthem is a mere mockery because were have no heroes as it stand and they never did labour to put Nigeria on a right path This will continue, the Northern Part of Nigeria are not ready to make amend, they will not apologize to the Igbos for genocide, let no one despise the Igbo for wanting to exit Nigeria, Nigeria has not been favourable to the Igbos. You can tell that even the Nigerian People are too afraid to rotate the President to the Eastern Part of the country. We never accepted to be locked in with Hausa, were in the south never willingly give up our selves to be enslaved by the Hausa and we must refused this new colonial masters Lest I forget, all of the offices in Nigeria is manned by Hausa, go to the Airport in Lagos, Hausa run the show in a Yoruba state, go to Apapa Port, Yorubas are not beggers at the gate asking for survival just because the Hausa have taken over all their resources. Wheras it was the Yoruba and Igbos that taught the hausa to read and write. We must demand for Liberation from this hausa colony or accept that we have been forever conquered. (says the scriptures); So these rapists/killers MUST die to serve as a deterrent to other criminals. • If these murderers are not killed then the police has done nothing • keeping them in prison is a waste of time, because one day they will escape (because of the porosity of Nig prisons) Or be released one day after collecting BRIBE from them • The bottom line is KILL THEM!!
