‘Peter Obi lies recklessly’ — Onanuga

Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, has accused Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi of making reckless assertions regarding federal investment in sports.

Bayo Onanuga made the accusation in a post on the social media platform X while reacting to Peter Obi's recent public calls for increased federal funding and developmental commitment toward the nation's sports sector.

“Headlines don’t lie like Peter Obi lies, recklessly,” Bayo Onanuga wrote.

The presidential aide criticized Peter Obi's administrative record during his eight-year tenure as governor of Anambra State, alleging that athletes representing the state faced poor welfare standards.

“His poor sports record as governor is well documented in the archives,” he stated.
Bayo Onanuga further claimed that physically challenged sportsmen and women in Anambra State were treated "shabbily" under the former governor's administration.

Questioning the credibility of Peter Obi's policy recommendations on sports infrastructure and financing, Bayo Onanuga concluded:

“Today, he talks, very glibly, of course, about the need for the FG to invest in sport, when, as governor for 8 years, he treated Anambra sportsmen and women and even, unconscionably, the physically challenged sportsmen and women shabbily.”
