“We ran out of money to continue his treatment” – Young woman breaks down in tears as she loses brother 48 hours after bringing him home from hospital

A young Nigerian woman has broken down in tears while recounting how she lost her brother just 48 hours after her family brought him home from the hospital because they could no longer afford his treatment.

In an emotional video shared online, she revealed that her family had exhausted their savings, borrowed money and accumulated debts in an attempt to save her brother's life.

“We borrowed, spent our life savings and went into debt trying to save him. We did everything we could, but the moment we went broke, we couldn't afford to keep him in the hospital,” she said.

She explained that they had no choice but to take him home after running out of money, only for him to pass away two days later.

Questioning the state of Nigeria's healthcare system, she lamented that access to life-saving treatment increasingly depends on a person's financial situation.

“I've come to realize that Nigeria is becoming a place where your chance of survival depends on how much money you have. If you are poor, even your right to fight for your life becomes a privilege,” she said.

She also criticised the focus on upcoming elections while families continue to struggle with medical bills, calling for greater attention to the country's healthcare challenges.
