Mary J. Blige confronted an audience member who booed during her Las Vegas residency show on Wednesday, calling the person an “idiot” and asking for them to be removed from the venue.
The exchange took place at MGM Resorts’ Dolby Live Theater and was captured in footage obtained by TMZ. According to an eyewitness, Blige was approximately halfway through her two-hour performance, standing at a microphone between songs, when someone in the audience began booing.
The singer responded directly to the person, saying they had not been obliged to attend. “To the bitch that’s booing, you didn’t have to come here. I hope someone sees you and politely removes you,” she said. Blige then questioned why the person had spent money to attend the concert, ending her response by calling them an “idiot”. She later calmed down, apologised and resumed her performance.
Approximately 20 minutes after the exchange, Blige welcomed Wyclef Jean to the stage as a special guest. The pair performed his song “911”. It was not clear from the report whether the audience member was removed from the theatre. TMZ said it had contacted Blige for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.
