Police corporal fatally shoots his girlfriend, takes own life in Kogi

A police corporal identified as Amos allegedly murdered his girlfriend and took his own life in Kogi State.

It was gathered that the corporal attached to the Ajaokuta division of the command allegedly fatally shot his girlfriend, Grace, also a police corporal, before unaliving himself with an AK-47 rifle following reported relationship troubles.

The incident occurred around 9 pm on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Amos, who was assigned to night-duty station guard, reportedly resumed duty at about 6 pm before allegedly abandoning his post hours later.

He was said to have proceeded to Grace’s quarters, where he allegedly opened fire on her three times before turning the rifle on himself.

An account claimed that Grace sustained gunshot wounds to her shoulder, lower abdomen and leg before Amos allegedly shot himself.

The source linked the tragedy to alleged disagreements in the officers’ romantic relationship, which reportedly deteriorated in recent months over trust issues and accusations of infidelity.

The source added that the relationship became strained, with disagreements escalating into physical confrontations and threats.

The source further claimed that the two officers had previously been detained by the Divisional Crime Officer following their disagreements, with the DCO reportedly advising them to end the relationship to prevent further conflict.

The source alleged that despite the intervention, the dispute persisted until Friday’s incident.

“The two junior police officers had been dating for some years now, but a few months ago, they started having trust issues and cheating allegations. There had been physical fights and threats to the extent that they were detained at some point by the DCO, who later advised them to end the love relationship for the sake of peace,” the source said.

The spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, Afusat Saliu, who confirmed the incident in a statement to punch on Sunday, said investigations is ongoing.

“We are aware of the incident, and the case is currently under investigation; we will update members of the public after the investigation is concluded," she stated.
