The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation project on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, scheduled to commence on Monday, October 19, 2026.
Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi disclosed the upcoming works in a traffic advisory, confirming that construction will cover the stretch between the Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre junction and Samuel Manuwa Street/BJ.
To maintain traffic flow during the maintenance period, authorities will implement a contraflow system on the Lagos-bound lane running from Samuel Manuwa Street toward the Civic Centre while construction proceeds on the opposite lane.
The Ministry of Transportation has outlined several alternative routes to assist commuters traveling through Victoria Island and Lekki: Bonny Camp and Falomo toward Lekki: Motorists can navigate through Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, link Adeola Hopewell Street, proceed via Akinbo Savage Street, and connect to Bishop Aboyade Cole Street to re-enter the expressway at School Corner (Black Diamond) toward Sandfield.
Alternatively, drivers can join Bishop Aboyade Cole Street directly. Falomo toward Akin Adesola Street:
Vehicles may proceed through IMB to the Coastal Road entrance via Adetokunbo Ademola Street to Eko Hotel Roundabout, continuing through Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Ayorinde Street toward Black Diamond. Bonny Camp via Ahmadu Bello Way:
Drivers are advised to route through Eko Hotel Roundabout using the IMB/Coastal Road access, proceeding via Bishop Aboyade Cole Street, Ajose Adeogun Street, and Ligali Ayorinde Street. Eko Hotel toward Civic Centre:
Traffic will divert through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner toward Sandfield. Motorists exiting the 1004 estate gate must make a U-turn in front of the gate to access Bishop Aboyade Cole Street toward Sandfield. Eko Hotel toward Falomo and Ikoyi: Commuters are advised to use Sanusi Fafunwa Street to connect to Akin Adesola Street toward the ramp bridge.
Osiyemi assured the public that personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed along the corridors to direct vehicles, prevent gridlock, and enforce compliance throughout the 35-day duration. Road users are advised to plan their journeys in advance and follow directional signs and traffic personnel instructions.
WAY TO GO!
HOPE THE MAINLANDS ARE BENEFITING FROM REPAIRS, TOO.
