Veteran Nigerian singer Daddy Showkey has weighed in on the incident at Queen's College which saw a mother dragging a security guard of the school for harassing her daughter for coming to school in artificial lashes.
In the video, the security officers and a teacher are seen dragging the girl and forcing her to raise her face so they could film her. The mother attempted to pull her daughter away from them but they held on tight. They ended up creating a scene.
The video has led to a debate as some wondered why the mother let her daughter go to school with artificial eyelashes while some asked if the school couldn't have handled it better.
Reacting to the video, Daddy Showkey said: "My people, look this very issue, who is right and who is wrong? Is it Queen's College, a school that is supposed to be one of the best school in Nigeria, or the child's mother that is protecting her child, or the security man that is holding the hand of the child and allowing people to video her because of eyelashes that she put on?
He added: "How can you be videoing a student in your school? And look at the teacher opening her mouth that 'video her, video her.'"
In the caption, he added, " See how backward our educational system is. It's a shame."

He is very very right. All of you calling him an illiterate unfortunately sound less educated than him. At no point did he say bringing lashes to school is right. There’s always one minor issue or the other in secondary schools. From nail polish to oversized earrings,short skirt etc. But as a child under an institution like a school, humiliation is not the way. You cannot and should not record her. They weren’t trying to correct her they were trying to humiliate her. How can anyone in their right minds think that’s okay? Just because she had on lashes? Daddy showkey has his own right to opinion just like Ali baba on this matter but the bottom line still remains that the mother failed in her duty to have allowed her daughter leave home for school with eyelashes fixed forgetting she's a college student and thereby flouted school rules. As for the security guard forming John Cena by almost engaging the mother of the girl in a fight, that's very wrong of him and I wouldn't be surprised if he's been taking bribes from these girls to leave school premises during school hours because back then in Unilag, you see them roaming around. Who allowed them out of the school premises? Queens college is just dwelling on past glory.

They shouldn’t of allowed it to escalate, they have that responsibility. And best believe if someone is videoing my child over any issue and manhandling her in my presence I am going off on them. The customer is not always right but the establishment has a duty to handle things right and a whole school which is apparently reputable did such a bad job that people with sense will now be judgmental of the good people who work there and will never behave like this.

I think the school could have handled it better. the guard should have just allowed the girl in and then ask her to report to the school authority who will invite the girl's parent then discipline her. this is what happened when you have thugs and agbero as security men.

I thought of it too. The mother was wrong but the teachers were wrong to record her. And she is a minor, she's still a child thats not now you correct a child. What if all the teachers start uploading videos of how they discipline or correct your child online? If it was just the mother they recorded fine but they shouldn't have recorded the girl. Forget the fact that Daddy Showkey is popular, videoing her is strategy to serve as an evidence if any form of legal case should arise later in future, the video would stand to protect the image of Queens College as it's an academic institution that frowns at indecent appearance of their student aside impacting better knowledge into them too.

Question is... why should most things in Nigeria end is some sort of violence. 1. Has the child violated the school's dress code? Possibly. 2. Is it the job of the schools security to check and enforce compliance? Maybe not. More so, since it's an all female school and the security personnel is male. 3. Even so, how do you go about it? Politely tell the student that she's inappropriately dressed and will not be allowed in. And in my opinion, the security personnel should not have this responsibility. It should be the head teacher or designated ranking member of staff, who has been trained with the procedures to handle such issues. How is difficult to do things the right way... how?

Did the security man stop the girl from entering the school? What right has a security man to stop a bona fide student of a school from entering school? I thought that should be the job of the School's Administrative Department and talks should be within the four walls of the Administrative Building. Only after communicating with the child's caretaker should such a decision be taken in the most amicable way. The whole situation was not professionally handled. I wish the girl's mum was calmer in her approach by simply taking her daughter and walking away from the Whole craziness. I do not support the decision to wear a fake eye lash but I feel that the whole situation would have been better managed by the school.

We are all missing the point here. One the school is bigger than any student. They have rules in place . the mother was totally wrong to have broken the rule and then not handle the situation right .I expected her to go see the school authorities and trash it out with them quietly and not return back to create a scene. if the mother had not reacted the way she did, we wont have heard of this story. worse happen every day but we don't hear of it because somebody took charge. Truth be told ,the mother should be held accountable for all that transpired. It all started with her and ended horribly with her handling the challenge at hand.
