My wife was impregnated by another man while still living under my roof - Husband tells Oyo court

A man, Sarafatu told the Grade A Customary Court, sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, that his wife is morally bankrupt, alleging that she was impregnated by her lover while under his roof. 

 

Sarafatu was dragged before the court by his wife, Rashidat, praying for the dissolution of their union on the allegation of neglect, constant fight, domestic violence and threat to life.

 

Rashidat said that the greatest mistake she ever made in life to get married to her husband.

 

She stated that she has known no peace since the outset of her marriage as a result of her alleged  husband’s reckless lifestyle.

 

Rashidat claime that Sarafatu refused to be committed to his responsibilities in the home, thus neglecting her and their children.

 

The plaintiff in addition stated that the defendant left them to starve on a regular basis, which made their children always appear malnourished.

 

Rashidat said she worked round the clock to cover her husband’s alleged laxity in the home.

 

Rashidat explained that Sarafatu was impatient and always turned every argument into a fight.

 

According to her, rather than show appreciation for all her efforts, her husband constantly punche  and leave her sore.

 

Rashidat stated that Sarafatu had made her life miserable enough, and thus decided to end their relationship.

 

She entreated the court for their children’s custody, and also pleaded that the court made her husband responsible for their welfare.

 

Rashidat further requested an order restricting her husband from threatening and interfering with her private life.

 

Sarafatu gave his consent to the dissolution of their marriage.

 

He accused his wife of infidelity.

Sarafatu explained that he caught her with her lover and reported her to her parents and their children, but that she refused to disengage from the relationship.

 

The defendant alleged that the plaintiff walked out their marriage after she was impregnated by her lover.

 

Safaratu begged the court for custody of their children.

 

According to him, his wife is morally bankrupt and would be a bad influence to them. 

 

“My wife is a slt. She was dating another man while still married to me,” he said. 

 

"I caught her with this man and reported her to her parents who admonished her.

 

"My wife rather than disengage from the illicit relationship went deeper into it.

 

"She moved out of my house after she was impregnated by her lover. My lord, I agree that our union be dissolved.

 

“I, plead that our children be put in my care because their mother will influence them negatively.”
