Paris FC winger Moses Simon is set to captain a new-look Super Eagles squad when Nigeria faces Russia in an international friendly match next Tuesday at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
Simon, who departed Abuja for Moscow alongside home-based players Chibuzor Atata, Aderemi Adeoye, and Kenneth Igboke, assumes leadership duties in the absence of team captain Wilfred Ndidi, making him the most experienced player in the traveling party.
Head coach, Éric Chelle has assembled a blend of established campaigners and fresh talent as he evaluates squad depth for upcoming fixtures. The roster features goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali alongside defenders Emmanuel Fernandez, Benjamin Fredrick, and Bright Osayi-Samuel, while Raphael Onyedika and Akor Adams bolster the midfield and attack.
Chelle has also recalled experienced forward Kelechi Iheanacho, who has made a strong start to his tenure with Turkish club Bursaspor. Meanwhile, several uncapped prospects are in line for their senior international debuts, including Akpe Victory, Suleiman Mubarak, Peter Edokpolor, Abdullahi Umar, and Chibuzo Nwoko.
The upcoming fixture marks the second encounter between Nigeria and Russia in a span of 16 months.
