Justice Salim Ibrahim of the Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced two men, Abba Mustapha and 41-year-old Bukar Ibrahim, both from Borno State, to life imprisonment for providing logistical support to the proscribed Boko Haram terrorist group.
The defendants were convicted after pleading guilty to charges of aiding terrorism and concealing vital operational information.
In addition to the life sentences, Justice Ibrahim slammed each convict with a consecutive 20-year prison sentence on the second count.
The convictions were delivered during the Federal Government’s latest phase of mass trials for suspected terrorists, which kicked off on Thursday across multiple courtrooms in Abuja.
More than 300 suspects are currently facing prosecution under the coordination of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
A panel of prominent jurists including Justices Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Peter Lifu, and James Omotosho are actively managing the accelerated dockets to ensure social justice and entrench transparency within Nigeria's administrative judicial system.
