A private jet has gone missing while traveling to Boston from Bermuda with six people on board, the US Coast Guard said on Saturday.
The Federal Aviation Administration notified the Coast Guard early Saturday that it had lost contact with the plane, a Gulfstream jet used as a medical transfer aircraft, a Coast Guard spokesperson said by email.
The Coast Guard said it has dispatched air and surface crews to search for the plane near Nantucket, an affluent island community south of mainland Massachusetts.
The plane had departed L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda for Boston Logan International Airport, the FAA said in a statement to PEOPLE, adding that it issued “a Search and Rescue Alert Notice (ALNOT)” for the aircraft.
The Coast Guard is currently searching for the Gulfstream G100 jet, tail number CGRJP, off the coast of Nantucket.
“Air & surface crews have launched in search of the aircraft. Updates will be provided here as info becomes available,” the Coast Guard Northeast District said on X.
Air Station Cape Cod, USCG Station Brant Point (based in Nantucket) and the USCGC William Sparling, a Fast Response Cutter, are among the search crews, per the USCG’s release.
