South-East governors speak on Northern youth group’s threat to Igbos

Following the three-months ultimatum given to Igbos residing in the North by a coalition of Northern Youth groups, governors of the five south-east states yesterday had a meeting in Ebonyi state where they urged the Igbos residing in the Northern region not to panic and to remain where they are and go about their activities without fear of being attacked.
Chairman of the forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, who spoke on behalf of the governors after the meeting, said the ultimatum was not only provocative but mischievous and inciting. He appealed to Northern leaders to speak wisdom to their youths so that this issue can be addressed properly. Umahi also denied claims that the governors had organized buses to move Igbos residing in the North back home.

“We must call on all serious minded patriots, particularly the religious leadership in Northern Nigeria; the leadership of other socio-cultural groups in Northern Nigeria; the Nigerian Governors Forum; and all the service branches to rise up with voices of peace and wisdom to counteract the mischievousness and exuberant excesses of the northern youth. The ugly lessons of history are too grim to be stoked with carelessness. As leaders, we must exert the full measure of our powers and influence to forestall a repletion. We call on all Igbo sons and daughters resident in Northern Nigeria to go about their lawful daily activities without fear of intimidation, hindrance or molestation. The rumors being peddled on conventional and social media platforms that we, the governors of the south east have met and agreed to mobilise vehicles and cash for repatriation of Ndigbo resident in northern Nigeria must be disregarded, as they are nothing but tissues of lies. No amount of provocation would lead us to such precipitate an irresponsible action at this time. Those exploiting such vacuous tittle-tattle as a basis for divisive rhetoric in public spaces are simply playing juvenile politics and we urge them to cease and desist.”he said

I don't support violence but truth is that if the igbos residing in north chose to stay there to pursue their respective dreams they should give some regards to their host communities. You can't stay in peoples lands and continue to call them all sorts of names and derogatory terms. Respect is reciprocal!

Mr governors, but even if you've organized buses to begin bringing your people home, that certainly would've been a better step. I guess you people lacks a true weight, or understanding of what's going on. May be, because you also lack true understanding of the Hausas. With this threat, and at this time, it's better to be wise and plan and work ahead of your enemies

Our Governors Don Come Again. Igbos resident in the north ve ur destine in ur hands. I advice u not to listen to the deceptive antics of the gov'rs. Recall that they ve never defended u in the past when u are toctured, butchered, killed; when they force their gods on u. Remain if the gov'rs nuclear family are also resident in the north. My broad, run! run!! run!!! Man and beast don't cohabitate.

Fantastic, the governors that cannot defend you in igbo land from common herdsmen, will tell you there is no problem, those that have been killed what happened?, if you know that you dont have the capacity to defend your self in case of any attack, better think twice and make your decision like a criple to start making alternative move before the rain. After the uthumatum how many have been arrested.

Please go and ask history what happened to the build up of the civil war, i am affraid that we are trying to go through the same road again.

The northern youths should be arrested and their organisation must be tagged a terrorist organisation

This is what happened in 1967 when the Igbo leaders said the same thing to their brothers that they should stay no cause for alarm all of a sudden the Hausa's sporadically started killing the Igbo's and the leaders were did little or nothing to save the ones killed even the ones fleeing were all killed, they the governors and Igbo leadersade tell their brothers stay am afraid when the Hausa wi start killing the governors and Igbo leaders will do nothing to avert it so Igbo's living in the north please!!! Start now to save your life for the Hausa says something against the Igbo's they have planned it before and even their leaders and governors are in support of every of their utterances but pretending so you Igbo's start leaving NOW!!!!! You are WARNED!!!!!!!

You are a coward for saying will are afraid to form biafra. Who is scared? Let them make move and see what will happen to other haussa in south south and south east. Will are going to broke up from the country in a diplomatic way and not by fighting. And I believe this is a plan work between elders of North and dey youth. They want to shake us. Northerners should take note that this is not 1960

Is it not what I was saying, when they kill these governors will be chilling and cosying up,with their security agents guarding them left and right and nobody does anything for the bereaved family nor restore the killed/wasted lives. They better leave that place now.

I am even hearing the sound of a revolution in that threat. People in authority should watch out, the youths of the nation seem to be getting tired of the hardship, tired of the old adult politicians and getting cantankerous like they are preparing to revolt.

Since u want biafra, dis would have beeeen d best time to continue ur agitation rather ur govs say u should remain and even die in nigeria(north). Can u people now see d reason why no one takes ur agitation 4 biafra seriously.

This same governors has been mute on the insults being heaped on other Nigerians on radio Biafra daily. First civil war, Igbos. We can't wait for us to plunge us into another war. Ask your people to return home and form your Biafra.

And the youths going around with Biafra flag and intimidating people in east should also be arrested. We are all one nigeria.

and no one is talking about the hypocrite that is fanning the embers of tribalism by agitating for biafra...We need to be united and fair to one another.

Lie's am advising all the Igbo's in North to start preparation of returning home..
Sale all your property and come down to east and invest....cos those arewa group's are evil and heartless

Sharap! What name did they call them? All they are asking for is to stop marginalization.

Anonymous said...

The Igbos should look at this as a blessing in disguise. If they are giving u ultimatum to relocate then they must give u your freedom. Bcos now, they are saying the do not want u anymore. Therefore they should let u go. I think they should give the Biafrans their freedom cos that is what they want. Give it to them and let them go.

You look at all this south-east governors ,and you pity there folks ,none of them have a Sound Brain to govern a full state especially Okorocha, Which ever state he govern , folks don't expect CIVILIZATION SOON.

Sharap! Don't you know govt and their diplomacy?

Anonymous said...

So that the marginalization of ndigbo will continue right? You try well, well.

I married an Igbo woman hence i accord Ndigbo with respect regardless of how i see things. That said, Igbo people living in the North werent forced to stay in the north and dont be shocked if they are even closer to northerners than you sef.Yall shld calm down with this biafra thing..It wont come with violence and misguided thots..before you can get a referendum sef you need to change the law hence get 2/3rd into the house..you have to be strategic..and what you want will be yours without shedding of blood..sincerely biafra wont come the way yall are going about it..And as an aside, what is the percentage of igbos that want biafra? I assure you that you are in the minority..cos successful men like psquare etc dare not conceive such ideas.
