Ify,
Even in this age and time, a lady and woman like you who would also become a mother if not already one is thinking like this. Obviously, you don't love yourself to start with and look like the kind of family member who would spearhead trouble for her sister in-law in the name of "male" child or "barrenness."

Let me clarify you critically. To start with, I do not know Chacha Eke from Adam and I am not even a fan of hers. I think her only movie I have seen is "Wicked Wife" or something in which she featured along with Tonto Dikeh and did not even make a strong impression as far as I am concerned, though she tried. But one thing I do know is that she is a WOMAN just like me, someone's child and a human being like you. Secondly, I am not just a woman but also from a family of 6 girls and 1 boy so I really understand and know where you are coming from especially with regards to Igbo culture. Thank God for my dad who never listened to his brothers. Today, I in particular is a reference point as far as my family is concerned, pushing boundaries the male children in my extended family cannot dare (despite constant challenges faced with living in Nigeria) and LOVING THEIR ENVIOUS LOOKS, GOSSIPS and SCHEMES knowing ONLY JEHOVAH GOT MY BACK, as they never imagined that any good thing could come out of an "all female" family how much more a poverty stricken one.

I used to listen to my dad's elder Uncle who was a staff of African Continental Bank Nigeria Ltd each he visits say to my father "why waste money sending them to school, they are women and will end up in a man's house after your efforts. Let them learn sewing instead". I heard this again and again as a child in primary school until secondary school. That man died before my SS1 and although it was terribly rough for us, today, none of his supposed "MALE" children is a graduate or useful in any sense of the word. I can point to so many people who mocked my mother and categorically tell you their "MALE" children cannot stand me to start with which gives me so much joy.

It is not about the GENDER of a child/children but the quality of life and investment in those children that matters. The female child will definitely get married and bear another man's name no doubt, but what is the point in breeding male children who would not even remember you in your old age or have their wives serve you watery soup with plenty salt deliberately stirred in. What is the point in birthing a male child who would not put your so called "family name" on the World Map? I have plenty of such stories and don't pity such parents because they are the enemies of progress who do not mind their own business.

Zuriel Oduwole, Dora Akunyili, Ngozi Okonji-Iweala, Arumah Oteh, Ndidi Nwuneli, Jumoke Adenomo,Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama,Zaha Hadid, Oprah Winfrey, Chimamanda Adiche, Beyonce, Florence Ita Giwa, Folorunsho Alakija, LINDA IKEJI, Tara Durotoye, Geneivive Nnaji, Mo Abudu etc are just few to mention. Let me not even walk you through generations of women who have achieved in every sphere of life whether young or old.

Also note:
1. Bill Clinton - 1 child (CHELSEA Clinton)
2. Barak Obama - 2 children (SHASHA & MALIA)
Don't you know that is a global message to the world? Do you think they cannot have male kids with the resources and technology available to them?

So just LOCK your mouth and jealousy there. That your mother suffered in the hands of her in-laws because of no "male" child does not mean Chacha Eke or any other should. Are you not happy that she is HAPPY WITH HER HUSBAND AND CHILDREN AFTER 4 YEARS even though she is an Actress? Even if she were to be "SINGLE and UNMARRIED" like Genny, Rita, Linda etc, it is women like you who join society to harass them, preferring they have at least a "RING OF BONDAGE" on their hands while living unhappily with a man.

Learn to celebrate the joy of others and yours will be FULL...Selah
