"Whatever you want to push out, ensure it has common sense" - Yomi Fabiyi replies Yomi Fash-Lanso

Here's what caused this drama! The remains of late Moji Olaiya will be flown back to Nigeria for a befitting burial after APC Chieftain, Bola Tinubu, assisted with the required funds. This was revealed by the committee in charge of Olaiya's burial, who also stated that Ekiti Governor, Ayo Fayose, dismissed their request even though the Late actress was a Cultural Ambassador of his state.

Actor, Yomi Fash-Lanso reacted to criticism against Fayose, insisting that what is condemnable is the entitlement attitude of the committee and perhaps of very many sympathizers. In his words;

'Anyone using the occasion of the largesse of the Jagaban to create an unnecessary divisive and patronising narrative needs his or her head examined for not only being mischievous but outrightly missing the point. If Nollywood is not aware, it should be told that their members are entitled to nothing extra beyond what every other Nigerians are entitled to, and really they have not served the memory of Moji well."

Yomi Fabiyi, the Publicity Secretary for Olaiya's burial has now responded. Read his reply below.

"Some people from experience they speak and some from experience they don't speak. Whatever you want to push out, ensure it has CONSCIENCE AND COMMON SENSE. IT MUST NOT BE MISSING IN YOUR PERSONALITY.

One thing is standard, If someone travels abroad for holiday perhaps where there is no family member(s) or friend(s) and he or she invariably dies. And in this instance left behind a 2 month old baby. Common sense, it becomes a clear case of emergency and a test of foreign policy of the bereaved nationality. The Embassy if any must step in or relevant government back home be informed for swift intervention. It is the right thing to do.

Before anyone questions the moral justification, economic impact or motive of the concern person(s) on the need to notify the relevant government or any public servant who can be of direct and swift help, I refer them to Course in humanity titled "DUTY OF CARE 101"(Not everybody will pass it anyway). The efficacy and mental theraphy returning the deceased body to the family alone for proper burial and re-uniting the child with his/her family will be immeasurable and by extention a great deal on our national reputation and citizenship. Everything is not just about money and politics.

It is a rare case of emergency especially when an infant is involved. When you have humane people in or out government who respond to such clarion call, you begin to have more trust in public service and hope of reaping the dividends of democracy.

It is not in my habit to dignify everybody with a response but it do beat my imagination if I see people who by one way or the other hold relevant position of trust and care particularly where I belong but out of ego, envy, hate and greed betray a simple act of respect and trust against who they should care. Seeing them employ some coinage to further expose their insensitivity... Anyway, when an association have people with reckless ego and pride as administrators, they troll their members publicly to score cheap hype. Intelligent people are never silent, but trust me, they know when to be quiet.

Posterity will always reckon with those individuals who effortlessly offer kindness and not excuses. Humanity."

Chai, Moji will be very disappointed where ever she is right now... Why all this drama and noise.. Can't they do this arrangement quietly and peaceful? Must Yoruba people make noise in every little given opportunity?... Shame on them all!

Guy park well there are many Nigerians abroad who needs more help that is even their right and has not gotten it, so look for other means to make money not somebody.s death

I sincerely hope Fashlanso won't dignify this guy with a response because its obvious he's looking for someone to wrestle words with and Fash is not in his class. Perhaps its difficult for Fabiyi to comprehend easily or he just choose not to at this point. What Fash simply said was Fabiyi and co are displaying entitlement attitude as though they worked for those they are seeking help from. Your mates that can write and speak well are featured in Hollywood blockbuster, ode. May Moji soul continue to rest in peace.

Yomi Fabiyi and the commitee should stop all this propaganda. When Moji was alive was she given an ambassadorial appointment as an indigene of Ekiti state? Has she at any time represented Ekiti state in any form or guise? It is not mandatory for the government of Ekiti to bring back her corpse, Yomi Fabiyi should stop his mischievous act... It is not compulsory for any government or individual to render assistance to any nollywood actor or actress, they are not in any way entitled to any extra largesse beyond what other Nigerians are entitled to. Where was Yomi Fabiyi when Olumide Bakare was critically ill, why did they not form a committee to raise funds for him.... Yomi Fabiyi please stop the patronage and kindly get your self checked and learn to be diplomatic.

I totally agree with the argument of the burial comitee. When an American died in the Paris attack last year, the US government flew the family members to Paris to identify and repatriate the body. I don't see why a Nigerian should not demand from the government to do likewise especially when there is a little baby involved.

The guy is just skipping words and articles everywhere. Did he even make common sense? Some should interpret Fash Lanso's comment to him if it's too high for his intellect.

Now we have a new definition of common sense. Death by terrorist attacks in a foreign land, is equivalent to death at child birth in a foreign land. When Nigerians make informed decisions about their prikate affairs, the burden of the consequences must be borne by the public. I think Yomi Fabi yinka, unwittingly, just proved Fash-Lanso right. Some of us think that fame garnered from private enterprise necessarily entitles us to access to public funds. Hopefully, that myth has been crushed once and for all.

Please change prikate affairs to private affairs.

I seldomly reply to posts here but will do this time. Yomi is such a low class with his abysmal response. Does he know how many Nigerians die here in the US yearly? It is not the business of Nigerian foreign mission to get involved in burial arrangement or repatriation of corpse unless its as a result of terrorism or national disaster in foreign land. If an American dies out the US, the family will have to make a request formally to the foreign mission or Congress man back home. I even doubt if the government can intervene if the death is not as a result of the reasons stated above.

I'm sure Moji will not forgive these men making her demise more like a Nollywood script waiting to hit Alaba market. It would not be out of points for people to contribute on personal level instead of these theatre boys and girls going around caps in hand - begging for money.

The government has failed us with no good medical facilities back home and that I guess necessitated the idea of Moji coming to birth in Canada. Strangely, no one has mentioned the role of the husband in all these fund raising brouhaha. Eni to se oju ko dabi eni to seyin o.

#enofsaid.

This is Nigeria not America. The reality on ground is very very different. Stop the comparison as the two countries aren't on equal footing at all.

Anonymous said...

Can you see the comparison you a making? Didinrin oshi. You are comparing someone who died in a bomb blast to someone who went to give birth probably not as paying patient and dieing in the process. It is such a pity Moji Olaiya died but that is why you need travelling insurance. It is called insurance for a reason. But trust my pple, will they buy the insurance? If Moji had travelling or medical insurance all this back n forth will not be happening. Govt shld now be responsible for paying to bring bodies of all the citizens that die abroad back abi? Well done. Hurry up and become a governor o
