See faces of suspects arrested so far for the grisly lynching of military officer in Ghana (photos)

A number of suspects have been arrested over the grisly murder of military officer in Denkyira Boase in the Central Region, Ghana on Monday, May 29.

The officer, Captain Maxwell Mahama was lynched by residents of the Denkyira Boase Township on suspicion of being an armed robber. He was a military officer with the 5th Infantry Batallion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra but on detachment duties there where he met his untimely death.

Capt. Mahama who is the commander of the area military detachment, according to his subordinates, was seen jogging along the main road and as he stopped by to ask some women for directions, the women saw a pistol on him.

Alarmed by the pistol on him, the women mistook him for an armed robber thereby alerting their assembly member who allegedly organised some men to lynch him and even burnt him in the process.

Their action is said to have been influenced by recent robbery attacks in the area with a recent one being a day before as the people in the mining town have been subjected to some serious robbery attacks. Capt. Mahama was not in uniform when the incident happened.

Even if it was an armed robber taking the law into their own hands and lynching him was barbaric. Ghanaian military have shown great restraint, in Nigeria the whole village would have been leveled.

If he can have the strength to lift pistol to go judging,
He should as well carry along with him I.D card, its just unfortunate and they should look at it two ways
Remember these people where intimidated and rubbed the previous days with the same kinda tools he was holding (gun) and maybe the military did not even show much concern as expected.
And now they be able to see someone carrying pistol on mufty. Let's think pls.
May his soul rest in peace.

And u all think two wrongs make a right? Whatsoever, the accuses need not be that battered and assaulted. Even if they are going to be killed by law, they are suppose to be charged to law court first. Do u know that some of the battered accuses might not know anything about the act eventually. In a sane society, the law would have turned somehow in their favour for the way they have been treated.

Anyway,I trust Ghanaian law. They would have sentenced these men while the Aluu 4 case would still linger on, with those with plenty money still trying to bribe their way out of it.Sorry for Nigeria & Africa!

It is very wrong. Wil a criminal carry a gun in d day nd wit the confidence of still asking for directions. That community is unfair!

Imagin these soldiers now taking matters into their hands. That is why africa remain a Backward continent. What is the difference between actions of the mob and the soldiers... None .
