President Buhari handed over to me- Osinbajo clarifies

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo last night via his twitter handle, addressed the speculations making the rounds that President Buhari did not properly hand over power to him. Responding to a twitter user who asked why President Buhari did not hand over the affiars of the country to him, Osinbajo said President Buhari did transfer power to him and that he had sent a letter to the Senate in compliance with S.145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). That section of the constitution reads:

“Whenever the President transmits to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives a written declaration that he is proceeding on vacation or that he is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office, until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary such functions shall be discharged by the Vice-President as Acting President.”

There have been an uproar over the non-reference of Osinbajo as acting president in the letter President Buhari sent to the senate notifying them of his trip to the UK for his medical follow-up. President Buhari had in the letter stated that he was handing over to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who would coordinate the activities of government in his absence. Some Nigerians felt this was an oversight and that Osinbajo should have been addressed in the letter as Acting President.

Osinbajo has however deleted his tweet.

Why are Nigerians so stupid? Is there a position as Coordinator of Nigeria in the constitution? If the President has said he's handing over to the Vice President what do you think that makes him constitutionally? Governor of Kogi State? Fools. Wasting people's time with irrelevant things.

going by the constitution, even if buhari did not clarify it properly in his letter, osinbanjo is the acting president.

Anyway, we are patiently waiting till any form of resistance would be propelled against the outright declaration/proclamation of Prof Yemi Osibanjo as the PRESIDENT of federal republic of Nigeria, probably after Buhari's resignation or EXPULSION BY THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY... Then the real men would be known

The constitution shd be what guides the operation and day to day activities of the govt not what one ailing senile old man decides to write or not write in a letter.

Nigerians are raising dust over non-issues. The constitution should be the guiding framework of what should be in this situation and it clearly provisioned that the vice president takes over. Therefore, those crying wolf are either ignorant of the constitution or simply intend to heat up the polity.

You must be mistaken the Presidency for the "Chairmanship of your village meeting"
too much ignorance for someone who seems mindful of looking good. Invest more in books instead of makeup dear. You'll be fine 😙

Igbos - if you can shelve your Biafra nonsense-, Niger-Delta and Yorubas, it is time we come together to move this country forward. The Northerners play dirty all the time and win; this is because they have managed (yes, they are pretty good at politics with no good intentions for the WHOLE of Nigeria) to make sure Southerners pitch tent against each other. It is time to drag our beloved country, Nigeria out of the doldrums.

One love.

All I know is that the Nigerian politicians of the opposition family are trying hard to make us believe all is not well with the president and his deputy whereas to the contrary they have very cordial relationship, mutual trust and respect for each other. Also, I know the job of the opposition is mainly to critize and possibly denigrate the govt of the day. It is normal but sometimes this job is taken too far to a destructive dimension. Last administratio witnessed severe security challenges especially at the hands of boko haram which was extensively used to dislodge and decimate Jonathan's govt while in this buhari era, his health and the Nigerian economy is being used. In all, these politicians are after selfish interest and not our collective well-being. Personally I think it is high time we ignored their fairly tales.

You're just another "educated dumb fvck" ain't you?!
Your level of dogmatic indoctrination is astronomical.
Wonder who your parents are you referring to the President as "one ailing senile old man".
Even if Prof Osinbajo's name wasn't even mentioned, the Constitution is "Very" clear and the president made no attempt to subvert it so see beyond the titles and accolades..it's the duty that defines the office. The V.P never complained so why are you crying more than the bereaved?

People are actually not very smart in this country? As we assume, if not they will not be asking who is the acting president or not, of course the acting president is Yemi O.
