Ogun State Govt to name stadium & street after Anthony Joshua

World heavyweight champion, Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua, 27, who defeated Ukrainian giant Wladimir Klitschko in an epic 11 round battle at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, will be honoured for his heroics in Ogun State, Nigeria where his parents were born.

The British boxer was born to a Nigerian mother and a British father of Nigerian and Irish descent.
According to ESPN, the Sagamu International Stadium in Ogun State will be renamed 'The Anthony Joshua Stadium' whilst Cinema Street will also be named 'Anthony Joshua Street' by the Ogun State government.

It was also reported that Joshua’s family own around half of the land and property on one side of the street and the cinema was built by his great-grandfather Omo-Oba Daniel Adebambo Joshua in the 50s.

Majority Leader of Ogun State House of Assembly, Asiwaju Adeyinka Mafe was quoted to have said: 'We are proud of what he has achieved as a son of Sagamu, and we will be happy to do our own little bit to show our appreciation and support for him.'

Let me borrow from Lindaikeji's word "they will come". but it's too late for Nigeria government to start recognitioning Joshua at this time of his victory when he came to them in 2010 and they rejected him.if I were him I won't honour any invitation or gift from any of them period.

Misplace priorities, he doesn't even live in Nigeria, instead of focusing on the local youth and developing them, by the way what contribution did they add to his current success?

You're right guy, but now forgiveness sets in. I totally stand on Linda's words and uses it as my slogan daily. Do not feel bad when people did not assist you climb your ladder. Just be focus, because you will definitely get there. And when you get there, kings will want to associate with you. I advice Anthony to forgive them...

My thoughts exactly, why not develop and improve the status of boxing as a sport among youths from that town. Nigerian politicians are just too vain

No oh .that street was formally called cinema road its off hospital road shagamu.there was an old building there that was formally used as a cinema house back in the days.

A fantastic UK champion! of Nigerian heritage! (chooses to fight for the United Kingdom for reasons he is entitled to), is to be invited to meet the NIGERIAN PRESIDENT and have a street named after him in OGUN STATE. Teresa May (PM of UK that he put on the world map!) is yet to meet or congratulate the young man, the queen has not considered knighting the young man. But our own Nigeria! is leading the accolade for a UK champion. HE REPRESENTS THE UNITED KINGDOM! How sad!
